Alabama vs Georgia 2018 SEC Championship Odds & Expert Pick

Once again, two familiar foes will battle it out for the SEC Championship in Atlanta, Alabama vs Georgia. This is a rematch of last year’s National Championship game which Alabama won in overtime.

Alabama comes into this game undefeated and as the NCAAF Betting favorite, having won every game by double digits. Georgia suffered their only loss at the hands of LSU in mid-October. While Alabama still has a shot at making the playoffs with a loss, this is a must-win for Georgia if they want to claim a spot in the final 4.

Georgia’s offense has been improving throughout the season. They’re led by their running back duo of D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield. Even though Alabama is known for their run-stuffing defense, they’ve given up 114 rushing yards per game, so they can be run on. Look for Georgia to try and pound the ball against the Alabama defensive line.

Heisman Taking Over

As for the Alabama offense, it all starts with Heisman trophy favorite Tua Tagovailoa. He has thrown for 3,189 yards, with 36 touchdowns, and only 2 interceptions. He has racked up these stats and has rarely played in the 4th quarter of games.

The Alabama rushing game has been stellar as well. Alabama has used a 3 back attack with Damien Harris, Najee Harris, and Josh Jacobs leading the way. If Georgia tries to key on stopping the passing game, these 3 will be able to pick up the slack and gain valuable yards for the Tide.

Although Alabama’s rushing defense isn’t as strong as it has been in the past, the Crimson Tide defense is still a powerful unit. They are 3rd in the nation in scoring defense, as they are only allowing opponents to score 13.1 points per game.

Smart Loves his Defense

When we’re talking about defense, we can’t forget about Georgia’s defense. They’re only giving up 16.8 points per game. They’re led by All-American cornerback Deandre Baker. Baker will have the enviable task of trying to shut down Alabama’s top receiver, Jerry Jeudy.

Alabama vs Georgia is going to be a battle.

Even though this game is being billed as the SEC Championship game, this truly is a National Championship game for the Georgia Bulldogs. With a loss in this game, Georgia virtually has no chance of getting into the College Football Playoffs. With a win over Alabama, they more than likely will get a spot in the field of four.

Roll Tide, Roll

Alabama has pretty much dominated every opponent that they’ve faced this year. That won’t happen this Saturday, as Georgia will be far and away the best team that the Tide has faced this season. Both teams will be ready to play. If Georgia can keep it close for 3 quarters, they’ll have a shot to take it to the Tide, who have yet to really play any meaningful minutes in the 4th.

If it is close, we’ll get to see if Tua Tagovailoa is still clutch under pressure. Take Alabama to win this game, but Georgia should be able to cover the spread.
