NFL San Francisco Vs Carolina Winning Favorites

The San Francisco 49ers surprised a lot of people (including the author of this column) with their 28-0 demolition of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1. With new head coach Chip Kelly, the 49ers have a solid running attack and, even though they start Blaine Gabbert at quarterback, they might not finish dead last in the NFC West. The Carolina Panthers lost a close game up in Denver on the opening Thursday night — another surprise for many bettors. Check out the NFL odds for this game and the rest of the Week 2 action.

Why should you bet on the 49ers?

Given that you have two teams that produced time-consuming drives in Week 1, this game could stay really close down to the wire. After losing to Denver, Carolina could come out with low energy once again, and if they still suffer from that Super Bowl hangover, San Francisco could take advantage. Chip Kelly has shown that he will take advantage of situations in a creative way, and I like him to use his offense to chew up the clock and limit the number of possessions that each team has. Even with Panther middle linebacker Luke Kuechly set to run a stifling Panther defense, Kelly’s creativity should keep his offense away from the three-and-out trap.

Why should you put your money on Carolina?

The schedule definitely favors the Panthers in this matchup, as they have had 10 days to get ready for San Francisco, while the 49ers played on Monday night. Also, the Niners have to travel to the East Coast and battle jet lag. Carolina has the better units on both sides of the ball, but can they win this game by two touchdowns? They had a difficult time adjusting to Denver’s rock-solid defense, and they couldn’t dent the momentum of Bronco quarterback Trevor Siemian (who is light-years away from Cam Newton in terms of talent). If the 49ers can get some momentum running the ball again this week, they could make this game really interesting, so Carolina needs to come out with more energy and flexibility on both sides.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Panthers to win this game, but Kelly and the 49ers will not make it easy for them. I predict a 20-16 Panther win — which mean I also predict a San Francisco cover, and a point total well under the over/under line.
