49ers vs Vikings NFL Week 1 Betting Odds & Prediction

The last time 49ers vs Vikings were scheduled during the regular season, the Niners got the best of the Vikings, but a lot has changed since then. At that time, Jim Tomsula was the head coach of the 49ers and Carlos Hyde was tearing up opposing defenses in red and gold.

Neither will be factors in this matchup as Tomsula is no longer a head coach and Hyde is now the feature back for the Cleveland Browns. Many new faces, like Kyle Shanahan, Jimmy Garoppolo, even a previous Viking in Jerrick McKinnon will be making plays for San Francisco this season, but that’s not enough to come in as the NFL Betting favorites.

Minnesota Made Changes

New faces on the Vikings sideline as well, with Kirk Cousins throwing the passes for the men in purple, second-year sensation Dalvin Cook, and what could be the best wide receiver tandem in the league with Adam Theilen and Stefon Diggs hauling in circus catches. Riding high on emotions left from last seasons Minneapolis miracle, this offensive unit is looking to start off the season with a bang.

The defensive unit for Minnesota is one of the league’s best as well. They can flat out get after the quarterback and their back end is as good as they come. Harrison Smith and Xavier Rhodes will be in the top 10 in their positions at creating turnovers and they are lightning quick to the ball.

Few opportunities come along like this one for Kyle Shanahan. Shanahan coached Cousins while in Washington when he was still getting his feet wet in the league. Shanahan molded this player into the very guy who demanded the first ever fully guaranteed contract in the game.

49ers vs Vikings is going to be wild.

He knows what makes him uncomfortable, he knows what his tendencies are, and he knows what mistakes he won’t let go unnoticed. Look for the edge to be in favor of the 49ers in this week’s matchup.

Jimmy G. has looked great since slipping on the Niners jersey and suiting up with the first teamers. In fact, he has yet to lose a game in which he’s started for them.

His rapport with Marquise Goodwin and the added support from the speedy back, McKinnon in the passing game will be something to watch! I expect a score around 17 to 24 points going to the winner, but make no mistake, the Niners will have to earn every first down against this Vikings defensive squad.

49ers vs Vikings Expert Prediction

One tipping point for me that not many are discussing is Cousins and the fact that he is trying to implement a new system, new terminology, new players, new structure around him, new play-callers, new everything. I’m not saying he’s not sharp enough to pick that stuff up, but that’s asking a lot of anyone to pick it up that quickly.

His playbook will be thinner now than any other point of the season. For that, I give Shanahan and his previous knowledge of Cousins and his style of play the edge. If this team meets up again in the postseason, I likely will go the other way, but for now, I’ll take the Niners.
