Juventus will have their backs up against the wall for the home leg of their Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. The Spanish side won the first leg 2-0, but Juventus is -153 to win Tuesday’s fixture. Meanwhile, Atletico is +422 win while a draw is +249.

After losing in Madrid last month, Juventus has had no trouble getting back on track. They have won three in a row, including a 4-1 victory over Udinese on Friday. Massimiliano Allegri’s team is running away with the Serie A title, but they have a lot of work to do if they want to stay alive in Champions League.

Of course, the Red and Whites of Atletico Madrid have also been in top form lately. The club has won four straight games in all competitions, including the win over Juventus in the first leg. They’ve also kept a clean sheet against their opponents in all four of those matches. Atletico also had this past weekend off from La Liga, so they should be fresh for Tuesday’s showdown.

More of the Same

Atletico manager Diego Simeone will be under no pressure to make any drastic tactical changes from the first leg against Juventus. In that meeting, the Italian side owned 63% possession but mustered just two shots on goal. They weren’t even called for offsides, which shows how little they bothered the Madrid backline and goalkeeper. In fact, it was the two Atletico center backs who scored the two goals late in the match.

With two goals to the good, Madrid will be fine conceding possession and playing a defensive game. In past Champions League campaigns, Simeone has had plenty of success getting his side organized and relying on their ability to prevent goals to carry them. Remember, they haven’t allowed a goal in over a month since facing Real Madrid in a league game.

Juventus must also be aware of the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa, and even Alvaro Morata, as Atletico can be dangerous on the counterattack and could all but seal their spot in the quarterfinals with just one goal.

Juventus vs Atletico Madrid It’s on You CR7

For Juventus, this game will likely come down to the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo. He was nowhere near his best in the first leg, and now the pressure is squarely on his shoulders to turn the tide in the second leg and save Juventus from crashing out in the Round of 16.

As mentioned, the Italian giants have found their form with three straight wins since their trip to Madrid. But Ronaldo hasn’t scored any of the seven goals in that span and hasn’t found the back of the net in nearly a month.

Juventus vs Atletico Madrid is going to be a close one.

Of course, even a Ronaldo who’s out of form will be watched closely by the center back tandem of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez.

That will leave it up to the likes of Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic, and Blaise Matuidi to find the breakthrough for Juventus. The longer it takes that group to create a serious goal-scoring opportunity, the more comfortable Atletico will become sitting back and absorbing pressure.

Home is No Help for Juventus vs Atletico Madrid

In theory, Juventus should play better at home in the second leg. But the damage is already done against a club like Atletico that has proven it can play deep into the Champions League knockout stage. Bet on the Spanish side to force a draw or possibly win in Italy on Tuesday if you want to take a little bit of a risk with a higher payout.
