Top Soccer Betting Picks of the Week – January 8th Edition

Written by on January 8, 2018

We are coming off another great week of amazing soccer betting action, with the FA Cup, in particular, delivering some major surprises, none of which were bigger than Nottingham Forest taking down Arsenal 4-2. There is little time to draw breath, though, as Monday starts another big week, with the Premier League returning to action. Prior to that, though, we have another FA Cup game, the Carabao Cup semi-finals, and some big games in the Copa Del Rey in Spain. Let’s look ahead to some of the bigger games on the soccer calendar this week, including the latest soccer odds, and making some picks as we go.

Top Soccer Betting Picks of the Week – January 8th Edition

Brighton vs. Crystal Palace

  • When: Monday, January 8
  • Where: American Express Community Stadium
  • Tournament: FA Cup
Both of these teams are close to mid-table in the Premier League, but they are also just a few points clear of the drop zone, which is why this FA Cup 3rd round tie might serve as a pleasant distraction. These two actually hooked up earlier in the season, with that one ending in a 0-0 tie, which is no real surprise given how poor they have both been in front of goal this year. The last time they hooked up prior to that meeting was in the Championship playoffs back in 2013. It was a two-leg affair that ended in a 2-0 aggregate score in favor of Palace. Should be low scoring again, but I think Crystal Palace edge it. Soccer Betting Pick: Brighton 0 – Crystal Palace 1

Manchester City vs. Bristol City

  • When: Tuesday, January 9
  • Where: City of Manchester Stadium
  • Tournament: EFL Cup
It has been quite the season so far for Manchester City, as they have been about as close to unbeatable as a team can get. They are running away with the Premier League and had a comfortable passage into the FA Cup 4th round with a 4-1 win over Burnley on the weekend. Next up is a visit from giant killers Bristol City in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final. Bristol City is having a good season themselves, currently sitting in 4th in the Championship and coming into this one having beaten Manchester United in the previous round. Their run ends here, though, as I think they may be on to a bit of a thumping in this one. Soccer Betting Pick: Manchester City 3 – Bristol City 0

Chelsea vs. Arsenal

  • When: Wednesday, January 10
  • Where: Stamford Bridge
  • Tournament: EFL Cup
There has been some real discontent among the Arsenal faithful over the past few years, with much of their anger directed towards manager Arsene Wenger. The loss to Nottingham Forest has done nothing to help his cause, and the reality now is that this may prove to be the Gunner’s last shot at silverware this season. Chelsea should be one of your Soccer Betting Picks for this week. Getting to the final is not going to be easy, as they will need to take down their London rivals Chelsea in order to do so. The last two meetings between these two teams have ended in a stalemate, with a 2-2 tie the result earlier this season. I think Chelsea win and take the advantage into the second leg. Soccer Betting Pick: Chelsea 2 – Arsenal 1

Barcelona vs. Celta Vigo

  • When: Thursday, January 11
  • Where: Camp Nou
  • Tournament: Copa del Rey
Barcelona is a team that doesn’t usually have many problems with the majority of teams that they face, but Celta Vigo has proven to be a bit of a thorn in their side this season. They tied 2-2 in La Liga earlier this season, and the first leg of this Copa Del Rey semi-final ended in a 1-1 tie. The Problem for Celta Vigo is that they now need to head to the Nou Camp and get a win if they want to move on. That is a task that is much easier said than done, and I believe it will be the home team that comes away with the comfortable win. Soccer Betting Pick: Barcelona 3 – Celta Vigo 1
