Posted by Derrick Harper on August 9, 2018 in

The 2018 Consumers Energy 400 takes place on Sunday and pits racers against each other for the second and final time of the year in the state of Michigan. Let’s take a look at some of the drivers that have the best shot at taking the checkered flag and maybe some that you might not expect. The world of NASCAR is equally about skill, performance, and history. These drivers below have a mixture of pedigree and familiarity with the course that could put money ahead in the end.

2018 Consumers Energy 400 Expert Betting Preview

Chase Elliott at 10/1

Elliot saw his first victory recently at Watkins Glen in the Go Bowling at the Glen race on Sunday. He’s been close and has shown he can perform under pressure.

This week, he better make sure he’s got plenty in the tank if he wants to compete for the win, but this young rising star has some real potential to take the raceway by storm.

Clint Bowyer at 12/1

Clint Bowyer only has two wins but has looked much better than that may suggest. He’s had some success at this track as well, winning the first race of 2018 in Michigan.

Not only recent success, but historic success in Michigan with 10 of the last 15 races placing him in the top ten, he can be gotten at a relative steal at these odds.

Paul Menard at 200/1

Speaking of historical success at Michigan, Paul Menard, despite only having one career track win, has finished in the top 8 positions in six of his last twelve appearances on this track.

He seems to love this track and at these odds, I may love him if he wins. He hasn’t shown the ability to close in on the checkered flag, but this track has the best shot at getting him his second NASCAR top finish.

Kyle Busch at 7/2

This is my favorite to win it. He did just that in 2011 and took the checkered flag so this is old hat to him, pending he doesn’t trade paint. Busch has had remarkable successes at Michigan International Speedway, but above all else, he is the most consistent driver this season.

Kyle Busch is one of the favorites to win the 2018 Consumers Energy 400.

Speaking of his consistency, he has placed 10th or better in 18 of his last 21 races. He has shown he deserves to be a top 5 driver week in and week out.

Kyle Larson at 8/1

Kyle Larson may be a surprise to see here as he has yet to cross the checkered flag first this year, but he does extremely well at this track. In fact, he is the two-time defending champion at this event and in his most recent appearances here, he has won three of four races.

Going back even further, all of his last five appearances have been quality races with an average in the top 7. He could be worth it for some casual fans but count on serious NASCAR fans to know his heritage on this course.
