Wisconsin at Michigan Week 5 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on October 1, 2016 in

A lot of people thought that the Michigan Wolverines would have a 4-0 record going into their Week 5 tilt with the Wisconsin Badgers. However, almost no one thought that Wisconsin would also sit undefeated, as they opened against LSU and took on Michigan State in Week 4. The Badgers took down the Spartans last week on the road, while the Wolverines have yet to play a road game. Why should you bet on the Badgers?

Wisconsin features a ferocious defense and then shut down Michigan State last week. The Spartans picked up a decent total of 325 yards, but they coughed the ball up four different times, as Tyler O’Connor threw three interceptions and tailback L.J. Scott fumbled. Scott picked up 19 yards on his first carry of the game, but then only picked up 42 yards on his next 13 carries combined. Michigan State ran the ball predictably on first down, and the Badgers made them pay for their lack of flexibility. Linebacker T.J. Watt picked up six tackles in the game for Wisconsin, and he tallied 2.5 sacks. Even with a grinding offense that doesn’t do much that is flashy, Wisconsin can still win, wearing down the opposition.

Why should you put your money on the Wolverines?

Michigan quarterback Wilton Speight has played well in his first campaign as the Wolverines’ starter, throwing nine touchdown passes and just a single pick. Granted, the Wolverines have not played challenging foes (Hawaii, Central Florida, Colorado and Penn State), but Colorado is a Pac-12 foe and Penn State is on the conference slate. The Badger defense will try Speight and the Wolverine running attack, but they have handled all comers so far. Against Penn State, he went 21 for 34 for 189 yards with a touchdown in the 49-10 rout. So as long as he can manage the ball and avoid turnovers, the Wolverines have a chance.

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I picked Wisconsin to cover against LSU — and they went out and won straight up. I picked them to lose to Michigan State and watched them batter down what I think is the toughest program in the Big Ten East. I like Wisconsin to go into the Big House and come out with a 24-21 win.
