Western Michigan at Kent State College Football Betting Pick

Posted by Peter Boysen on November 8, 2016 in

Western Michigan (9-0) has made it all the way to #23 in the latest college football rankings, and they trounced Ball State, 52-20, last Tuesday. Now they take on a Golden Flash team that is just 2-3 in conference play but did ring up a huge upset of Central Michigan in their last game on October 29. Western Michigan needs this win to keep their one-game lead over Toledo in the MAC West. Check out all of our college football betting picks for this week’s action.

Why should you bet on the Broncos?

Western Michigan has basically skated through their schedule to this point, with the only real scare coming in Week 1, when they took down Big Ten school Northwestern in a 22-21 upset. They have won all of their other games by 15 points or more. In their win over Ball State, they started off with a pick-six from Darius Phillips. When Ball State answered with a touchdown, Western Michigan went on a 35-3 run. Quarterback Zach Terrell went 23 for 34 for 367 yards and three touchdowns — and no interceptions. For the season, he has 23 touchdown passes and just a single pick, showing his skill in ball security. Tailback Jarvion Franklin gives the team offensive balance, having posted 1,018 yards in the team’s nine contests. They have the offensive prowess to run roughshod over Kent State in similar fashion.

Why should you put your money on the Golden Flashes?

The Kent State offense has struggled to put up points this year, scoring just 14 against Miami (OH) and 10 against Ohio U. However, they put up 27 against Central Michigan last week, aided by a 68-yard gallop by Nick Holley for a late touchdown. Holley threatens more with his legs than his arm, as he went 10 for 18 for just 102 yards and a touchdown (and a pick-six), but then he ran for 144 yards and that big score. He has run for more yards (775) than he has thrown (668). The defense, though, has some salt to it, permitting only 350 yards per game (#23 in FBS) and 205 passing yards per game (#36). So if you bet on Kent State, you like them to stay close enough to the Broncos to stay inside that line.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Western Michigan is playing head and shoulders above the rest of the MAC this year. I like them to bring another whipping to Kent State this week and prevail by a score of 41-14.
