USC vs UCLA Week 12 Expert Pick

Posted by Aaron . on July 27, 2016 in

The yearly meeting between USC and UCLA is one of the most storied rivalries in the Pac-12. Both universities are in greater Los Angeles; ironically, USC is closer to the Rose Bowl, which is UCLA’s home field, while UCLA is closer to the L.A. Coliseum, which is the Trojans’ home field. The two teams play each year for the Victory Bell, which came from an old Southern Pacific train locomotive. Currently, USC leads the all-time series, 45-31 with 7 ties. Last year, USC broke a three-game losing streak in the series with a 40-21 win. Let’s take a look at this college football betting preview and pick.

Betting on the USC vs UCLA Week 12 Expert Pick & TV Info

When: Saturday, Nov. 19, TBD
Where: Rose Bowl, Pasadena, Calif.
Stream: PAC-12 Network Live
Opening NCAAF Lines: TBA

Why Should You Bet on USC?

Clay Helton takes over as the Trojans’ head coach, but the fact that he was the former offensive coordinator means that there isn’t a new scheme for the team to learn. Ronald Jones II and Justin Davis make a spectacular pair of tailbacks behind a solid offensive line led by Zach Banner. The team needs to pick a quarterback, as Sam Darnold and Max Browne are vying for the job. The school has brought back Clancy Pendergast as defensive coordinator, and his attack-first philosophy has a lot of fans. The problem is that while the back seven is fairly solid, the defensive line has to replace all of its starters with youngsters Jacob Daniel, Noah Jefferson and Rasheem Green.

Why Should You Put Your Money on the Bruins?

Quarterback Josh Rosen returns with his talented arm, but new offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu is committed to a team that runs the ball with more commitment. Bolu Olorunfunmi, Nate Starks and Soso Jamabo are a talented set of tailbacks who should take some of the burden of the offensive off Rosen. The wide receiving corps is mostly new, with the exception of Darren Andrews, and the team is moving Ishmael Adams over from cornerback. The defense needs to improve its work against the run, moving to a four-man defensive line. Stopping the run was an issue last year.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Rosen’s arm, but I just view the Trojans are more multifaceted on offense and more prepared to mount a solid defensive effort. I’m predicting a 27-23 USC win.
