Top Parlay Picks for 2016 College Football Week 1

2016 College Football Week 1 Three-team Parlay Picks:

  • Washington (-20.5)
  • Alabama (-10)
  • Florida State (-5)

Rutgers vs. Washington (-20.5), Saturday, September 3

NCAAF Week 1 Pick: Washington (-20.5)

Rutgers has been a perennially bad team since joining the Big Ten and nothing about their offseason dealings makes me want to think that they will be a better team than they were last season. I mean, with all due respect, Chris Ash isn’t the type of guy you’d want to coach your team if you were looking for a big improvement in your performance. On the opposite side, the Huskies are coming off one of their best years in recent memory, thanks to the entrepreneurial works of former Boise State Coach Chris Peterson. Two of his top recruits, QB Jake Browning and RB Myles Gaskin, posted good numbers last year and can only get better after gaining invaluable experience as starters. Meanwhile, Washington also returns eight starters on defense from a team that could have easily won more than the 7-win output from last year, had it not been for the narrow losses to Oregon, California and Boise State. All that being considered, it makes all sense in the world to expect Washington outclass the Scarlett Knights in this Week 1 fixture for a big win plus the coverable points.

USC vs. Alabama (-10), Saturday, September 33

NCAAF Week 1 Pick: Alabama (-10)

Here comes your defending NCAA Football champs, the Alabama Crimson Tide! The fact that the Trojans have been on the cusp of breaking out for success for the last several years yet done nothing yet is something many of you are fully aware of. Last year’s lot should have particularly performed really well, as the team had one of the best QBs in the country in Cody Kessler, a lethal WR in Juju Smith-Schuster and a proven coach in Steve Sarkisian. Come the end of the year, USC was nowhere among the top teams in the Pac-12, leave alone the nation, and Sarkisian lost his job mid-way through the season because of it. And now, Kessler is gone. Having Smith-Schuster returning for another year will help whoever will start at QB for USC, but it won’t be enough against an Alabama team that has a standout WR of its own in Calvin Ridley and a near-perfect top-to-bottom roster on both sides of the ball. Simply put, take Alabama to win by 10-plus points at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Mississippi vs. Florida State (-3), Monday, September 5

NCAAF Week 1 Pick: Florida State (-5)

Going by the manner in which Ole Miss started its 2015 campaign in superb fashion, including a win over eventual national champions Alabama, it would be utterly unwise not to consider the possibility of an upset in this nationally-televised Week 1 game. But then again, even without the home advantage for FSU, the Seminoles are likely to outplay Mississippi in this clash due to their better balance in talent. Be on the lookout for an interesting competition between two 2016 Heisman Trophy hopefuls in Ole Miss’ QB Chad Kelly and FSU’s RB Dalvin Cook, but when all is said and done, the Noles should have the last laugh, courtesy of their defense that will most likely make more plays than the visitors.
