Expert Predictions for College Football Week 9 Must Watch Matches
Penn State Nittany Lions @ Ohio State Buckeyes (-11)
Ever since losing to Oregon, the Ohio State Buckeyes have been on a tear. Ohio State put up 30 unanswered points in the second quarter in their 54-7 prime-time destruction of the Indiana Hoosiers.
Ohio State has one of the top-scoring offenses in the nation, and they are on a mission to show everyone that despite their one loss, that they are one of the top four teams in the nation. They’re averaging over 550 yards of offense per game, and CJ Stroud has moved himself into Heisman Trophy contention.
Penn State is coming off of a devastating nine overtime home loss to the University of Illinois 20-18. Penn State’s offense has been abysmal as of late.
They were only able to score 18 points in the extended game against Illinois, and that was with Sean Clifford back under center. The Nittany Lions do have a very good defense that is allowing just over 15 points per game. We’ll see if they can contain the powerful Buckeye offense.
Coming off of last week’s loss against Illinois, James Franklin is on the hot seat. There had already been rumors circulating that he was a candidate for the USC and LSU jobs, and maybe those could have been distractions.
With everything going against Penn State right now, we can’t see them staying with Ohio State. The Buckeyes will win this one by two touchdowns.
Georgia Bulldogs (-14) vs. Florida Gators @ Jacksonville
It’s time for the “World’s Largest Cocktail Party” to commence once again as the #1 team in the country, the Georgia Bulldogs, will meet the Florida Gators. When you think of Georgia, their vaunted defense immediately comes to mind.
They are allowing just over 209 yards of offense against them per game. They are currently the top-ranked defensive unit in the country. Coming off of a bye week, they should be ready for the Florida offense.
While the Georgia defense gets all of the publicity, we can’t forget about how much their offense has been improving. Stetson Bennett and company have been putting up some solid numbers. Florida’s defense isn’t a real strong unit, so they should be able to put up some points.
Florida has been the model of inconsistency this season. They play well against Alabama and then struggle with other teams. Their offense is capable of putting up points in bunches, but we don’t have confidence in them being able to score against Georgia’s defense.
We really like Georgia in this one. We see them winning this one by 16-18 points, so jump on the 14 quick if you like Georgia as much as we do.
