Stanford at Washington Week 5 Betting Pick & Prediction

Stanford at Washington Week 5 Betting Pick & Prediction

Written by on September 29, 2016

Friday night features a star-studded matchup on national television when the tenth-ranked Washington Huskies host the seventh-ranked Stanford Cardinal. The winner of this game instantly becomes the favorite to win the Pac-12 North, while the loser will have to await some help in order to take the title. Washington almost fell to Arizona on the road last week, but they won 35-28 in Overtime. Stanford went south to UCLA and won a 22-13 decision. In 2015, the Cardinal beat Washington down in Santa Clara, 31-14. Check out your college football betting lines for all the Week 5 action.

Stanford at Washington Week 5 Betting Pick & Prediction

When: Friday, September 30, 2016, 9:00 PM ET Where: Husky Stadium, Seattle TV: ESPN Radio: Stanford / Washington Live StreamWatchESPN NCAA Football Odds: Washington (-3.5), O/U 44

Why should you bet on the Huskies?

Even when quarterback Jake Browning did not play his best, the Huskies brought away a win from a tough road opponent down in Arizona. Browning went 14 for 21 for just 160 yards, with a pair of scores but also an interception. For the season, he has a 14/2 touchdown-to-interception ratio, but even with Browning down, the Huskies missing some field goals and getting stuffed on a fourth-and-one, the Huskies came through. The hero was Lavon Coleman, who rumbled for 181 yards on just 11 attempts. The Huskies now average 45.8 points per game, ranking #1 in the country. Washington needs to shore up the run defense. Arizona quarterback Brandon Dawkins picked up 176 yards on the ground, scoring twice, and the team picked up 308 yards on the ground. For the season, Washington has only permitted 14.5 points per game, but the Stanford rushing attack will provide the Huskies’ toughest test of the season.

Why should you put your money on the Cardinal?

Just like Washington, Stanford did not play their best until it counted, rallying in the fourth period to deny UCLA a home victory. Stanford scored a touchdown with under a minute remaining, and then they jumped on a Josh Rosen fumble for the win. Quarterback Ryan Burns struggled just as Browning did for the Huskies, throwing for just 137 yards. The key for Stanford’s offense is Christian McCaffrey and the running game, and the Heisman Trophy candidate picked up 138 yards on 26 attempts. Stanford’s other strength comes from team defense; against UCLA, the team only gained 77 rushing yards and kept talented Bruin quarterback Josh Rosen at bay, limiting him to a single touchdown. Stanford only permits 12 points per game, which ranks them #8 in the nation. If they can apply the same defensive pressure to Jake Browning & Company, the Cardinal have a solid shot at a road upset.

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

If we look back at recent history, we see that Stanford is 4-0 ATS in their last four contests away from home and 6-1 ATS in their last seven road tilts against a team playing above .500 at home. Meanwhile, the Huskies are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight contests at home against a team with a road record over .500. This represents a major test for the Huskies, but after their character win over Arizona last week, I like the Huskies to pull off a 31-27 home win and take the inside track to a Pac-12 North title.
