Why should you pick Connecticut (+4.5)?

Connecticut went 4-4 in conference play, although they finished by winning three of four, including a 20-17 upset of the Houston Cougars at home. Connecticut’s tough losses this year were to Missouri, Navy, BYU, Cincinnati and Temple, all quality teams. They only put up 17.8 points per game, but this team’s strength was their defense, as they only permitted 19.8 yards per game, allowing 352.3 yards per week to the opposition. Jamar Summers had an outstanding year, picking off seven passes, a major factor in the Huskies’ +9 turnover margin for the season. They expect to limit Marshall’s opportunities on offense this Saturday.

Why should you pick the Thundering Herd (-4.5)?

Marshall finished 9-3 (6-2 Conference USA), beating Purdue early but losing key games to Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky. They put up 32.6 points per game, gaining an average of 401.3 yards. Quarterback Chase Litton had a solid season, throwing for 22 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. They hold the opposition to just 18.4 points and had a +4 turnover differential. That solid point differential makes a solid resume that makes them a decent pick to cover here.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think that Marshall is going to fall into a trap here. Connecticut is much tougher than that 6-6 record shows, and that solid defense will keep Marshall at bay. I like Connecticut to win this one, 20-16.
