College Football Odds Predict Duck’ Rout Over Beavers in Civil War

Posted by Aaron . on November 26, 2015 in

This year, the Civil War between the University of Oregon and Oregon State University takes place the day after Thanksgiving at Oregon’s Autzen Stadium. This will be the 119th time that these two teams have squared off, with the Ducks leading the series 62–46–10. The Ducks have struggled for the majority of the season, but a series of late wins has propelled them back into the top 25, where they currently sit at #23. They have beaten ranked opponents in each of the last two weeks. They welcome the Oregon State Beavers to town, a crew that is 0-8 in Pac-12 play this season. There’s no way to overstate the value that an upset would have for Oregon State morale, but based on the college football odds, a win by the Beavers seems highly unlikely.

The Beavers have been muddling their way through a lost season all year long. They were once 2-1, but they have lost all eight of their Pac-12 games since to sit at 2-9 at this point. Last week, Washington routed the Beavers, 52-7. Oregon State coughed up a couple of turnovers, and the defense permitted almost 50 yards of total offense. If they plan to stage a Civil War upset on the road, their game will have to be perfect.

Last week, the Oregon Ducks welcomed USC to town, and they were able to rout the Trojans 48-28. Vernon Adams, Jr. finally showed some of the promise that motivated the Ducks to bring him over from Eastern Washington, throwing for six scores and 400 yards against the tough Trojan defense. Now that the rival Beavers come to town, Adams will try to have another huge game through the air.

Oregon Ducks 2015 Season

Oregon is 7-0 against the spread in their last seven November games. They are 4-1 against the spread in their last five contests after they have gained over 450 yards in their most recent games. In their last 33 games after they scored 40+ points the week before, they are 24-9 against the spread. In their last 11 games when they gained more than 280 yards through the air, they are 8-3 against the spread.

Oregon State is 3-12 against the spread in their last 15 games the week after they permit 450+ yards in a game. When they play teams with a winning record, they are 1-7 against the spread in their last eight. In their last four games after a double-digit home loss, they are 0-4 against the spread. In their last seven games after permitting 40+ points the week before, they are 0-7 against the spread.

Betting Odds Trends

Oregon State Beavers

The Ducks are favored to win this game by 33.5. They have averaged 48 points per game over the last four weeks, while Oregon State has only averaged 11.2 points. The Ducks want to climb the rankings, but the Beavers are a hated rival, and that sort of emotion tends to shrink margins of victory in these types of rivalry games. So I think an Oregon victory is a no-brainer, but I wouldn’t take them to cover.
