Chip Kelly was hired to turn the UCLA football program back into a national powerhouse. In year two of the Kelly era, things haven’t gone as planned. The 2018 season was rough, and the Bruins have started the 2019 campaign with an 0-2 start. Let’s take a look at the latest NCAAF Odds while making some predictions.

Oklahoma vs UCLA 2019 College Football Week 3 Odds, Preview & Pick

Bruins Off to Slow Start

With a season opening loss to Cincinnati, and last weekend’s clunker against San Diego State, many are starting to question whether or not Kelly was the right man for the job. And just when you think that things can’t go any lower, look who’s coming to town, the Oklahoma Sooners. Oklahoma will enter the Rose Bowl with a 2-0 record. The first week of the season, Cincinnati hung around, but Oklahoma was able to use their size and speed advantage to knock off the Bearcats.

Oklahoma also dispatched of South Dakota, putting up a ton of points.

Sooners Keep Scoring

The 5th ranked Sooners will once again have Alabama transfer, Jalen Hurts, at the helm. Hurts has put himself into the Heisman Trophy race with his early season statistics. In their two games, Hurts has thrown for over 500 yards with nine touchdowns. Hurts has also rushed for a touchdown on three different occasions. The QB is leading the Sooners in rushing with 223 yards. Hurts can do it all.

With a dynamic offense that has the 5th best rushing attack in the country, and a defense that his improving daily, the Sooners will be hard to stop. Although the Sooner defense is still a weak spot, they are very capable of doing some damage to the other team.

They’re currently giving up nearly 375 per game. If the Bruins can take advantage of the Oklahoma defense, look out!The Sooners are a fun team to watch, and Lincoln Riley is probably going to be one of the most sought after coaches in many years. As for the Bruins, this is the first time that they have gone 0-2 in back-to-back seasons since 1943. UCLA is desperate for a victory.

Kelly Dilema

Kelly is 0-5 against non-conference opponents in his two seasons at the helm. They’re going to need some big things to happen if they want to stay within reason. Chip Kelly was thought of as an offensive genius, however we have yet to see much offense from UCLA. In the first two games of 2018 (both losses), the Bruins averaged 345 yards per game. This season, they’re only averaging 240 yards per game. Things just don’t seem to be going right for Kelly and his Bruins.

In order for the Bruins offense to get back on track, they’re going to need a huge game from Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Running Back Demetric Felton has had quite the two games. He is the Bruins’ leading rusher, and he has caught a ton of passes out of the backfield.

UCLA has also struggled in certain aspects of the defense, as the passing coverage has struggled, while the run defense has been impressive. The Bruins are only giving up 80 yards per game on the ground.

However, the secondary has been a huge weakness, and UCLA is giving up over 260 yards passing per game.

Bigger Better Team Wins

Unless something changes, this is all Oklahoma. The Sooners are bigger, faster and more powerful than the Bruins.Games aren’t won or lost on paper, so we’re looking forward to seeing a competitive matchup.
