Ohio State Takes on Michigan in NCAAF Betting Grudge

The meeting between Michigan and Ohio State only has playoff implications if Michigan State loses to Penn State. If the Nittany Lions can pull off the upset, then the winner of Michigan-Ohio State will advance to the Big 10 Championship game against Iowa. If Michigan State wins, then this game is just for pride. Of course, this is one of the oldest and most storied rivalries in all of college football anyway, so there will still be plenty of motivation.

Ohio State has won 10 of the last 11 contests between the two schools (8-3 against the spread). However, Michigan has covered the last two and now stand a solid chance of winning straight up, getting Ohio State at home. The Buckeyes stand as 2.5-point favorites.

So why should you pick Ohio State? They did get off to a 10-0 start this year and were cruising to another College Football Playoff spot until Michigan State came to town and knocked them off with a field goal at the end of the game. Ohio State had been up 14-7 at the start of the fourth period but permitted the Spartans to score the last 10 points of the contest. It was the first game this year in which an opponent had outgained the Buckeyes.

So why should you pick Michigan? They have won four games in a row since their own heartbreaking loss to Michigan State, in which a fumble by the punter on the game’s last play got scooped up by the Spartans, who then galloped into the end zone on one of the most unlikely endings to a game that you will see. Last week, Michigan beat Penn State on the road, 28-16. In addition to that momentum, the Buckeyes have not been the offensive powerhouse that they were last year. Against an elite defense such as Michigan State, those flaws showed. The only reason that Ohio State had those 14 points was two Spartan fumbles that gave the Buckeyes extremely short fields.

Ohio State is 4-1 straight up and against the spread in its last five trips to Michigan. In their last 17 November home games, the Wolverines are 5-12 against the spread. In their last 13 games following a loss, the Buckeyes are 10-3 against the spread.
