Rose Bowl: Stanford vs Iowa NCAAF Betting Tips

Written by on December 30, 2015

In the last nine NCAAF betting Rose Bowls, the Pac-12 representative has won seven (6-2-1 ATS). Two years ago, Stanford fell to Michigan State in the Rose Bowl, but this year they return to face the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Rose Bowl, in Pasadena, California. Stanford is a 6.5-point favorite over the Big Ten runner-up. View full TV schedule here.

Why should you bet on Iowa (+6.5)?

The Hawkeyes were not taken seriously as Big Ten contenders when the season began, but they just kept winning and winning, going into the conference championship game undefeated. Their biggest wins came at Northwestern and Wisconsin, and they finished an unblemished regular season with a win at Nebraska. They were not far from a Big Ten title, but Michigan State completed a late drive to walk out with a 16-13 win. The Hawkeyes took a 13-9 lead early in the fourth period when C.J. Beathard threw a bomb to Tevaun Smith, but the Spartans launched an epic 22-play scoring drive, punching the ball into the end zone with just 20 seconds left. They aren’t a pretty team, but they grind games out. The Hawkeyes were not taken seriously as Big Ten contenders when the season began.

Why should you take the Cardinal (-6.5)?

Stanford lost at Northwestern in Week 1 before winning eight straight. They were a possible CFP team until they lost at home to Oregon, 38-36. They polished off Cal and Notre Dame before routing USC in the Pac-12 title game, 41-22. They are 2-1 ATS when they are favored to win by seven points or fewer.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Cardinal have the more impressive resume over the course of the season. However, I think that Iowa will keep this closer than a touchdown. I like Stanford to win, 24-20, with Iowa covering the spread.
