N.C. State vs Clemson College Football Betting Preview

The North Carolina State Wolfpack visit the #3 Clemson Tigers this Saturday in ACC action. The Wolfpack took down Notre Dame last week, 10-3, while Clemson took Boston College to the woodshed up east by a 56-10 score. When the two teams met in 2015, Clemson won on the road, 56-41. The Tigers look to keep winning and shore up their bid for a College Football Playoff berth — as well as an ACC title, while the Wolfpack come in with an eye on playing the spoiler. Why should you bet on the Wolfpack?

When N.C. State hosted Notre Dame last week, the dregs of Hurricane Matthew dumped rain and wind on the field. Both offenses struggled to move the ball, as the only touchdown came on a blocked punt return in the fourth quarter. Wolfpack quarterback Ryan Finley went just 12 for 27 in that game, but for the season he has thrown for more than 1,000 yards, throwing nine touchdown passes — and no picks. Tailback Matthew Dayes had a terrific game in the maelstrom, picking up 126 yards on 23 attempts. In five games, he has rumbled for 563 yards, and he has played a big part in the offense averaging 34 points per contest. On the defensive side of the ball, the Wolfpack have only permitted 17.6 points per game, but they have not played a team with an offense approaching what Clemson brings.

Why should you put your money on the Tigers?

Deshaun Watson and the Clemson offense have hit midseason form, as Watson threw four touchdown passes against the Boston College Eagles. On the season, he has thrown 18 touchdown passes and seven picks. When the passing game falters, though, the Tigers can do it with the run as well, as they galloped for 234 rushing yards, led by Wayne Gallman’s 109 yards on just nine attempts. This is why Clemson averages 38.7 points per game. On defense, BC had no chance last Friday. They gained 254 yards on the day, but they sacked the quarterback three times, giving them 21 on the season (sixth in the nation). Clemson is 4-0 ATS in their last four ACC contests.
