Kansas at Oklahoma Week 9 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on October 26, 2016 in

The Oklahoma Sooners bring a four-game winning streak into Saturday’s contest against the 1-6 Kansas Jayhawks. After dropping two of their first three games to start the season, the Sooners have knocked off TCU, Texas, Kansas State and Texas Tech. Kansas’ lone win this season came in a blowout win over FCS foe Rhode Island to start the season, so their losing streak already sits at six games. Check out our college football betting picks for this weekend.

Kansas at Oklahoma Week 9 Betting Pick, Prediction & TV Info

When: Saturday, October 29, 2016, 7:00pm ET
Where: Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
TV: FS1
Radio: KansasOklahoma
Live Stream: Fox Sports Go
NCAA Football Odds: Oklahoma (-40.5), O/U 67

Why should you put your money on the Sooners?

The Sooner offense has shown some special signs this year. Against Texas Tech, the Sooners became the first NCAA team ever to have a quarterback throw for more than 500 yards, a running back run for more than 200 yards and a wide receiver have 200 or more receiving yards in the same game. Joe Mixon actually gained 251 yards running the ball and 114 more in receptions, scoring five times. Quarterback Baker Mayfield posted seven touchdown passes. The problem was that the Sooner defense allowed Red Raider quarterback Patrick Mahomes II to throw for 734 yards, tying the FBS single-game record, and to pick up 819 yards of total offense, a new record for an FBS program. If you bet on Oklahoma, you think that they can shut down the Jayhawk O enough to go up by more than five touchdowns.

Why should you bet on the Jayhawks?

Kansas hung tough with Oklahoma State during the first half last week at home, going into intermission just down by four points. However, they coughed up the ball on three of their first four possessions in the third quarter, with tailback Ke’aun Kinner fumbling and quarterback Montell Cozart throwing a pair of interceptions. Those miscues let the Cowboys jump out to a big lead and turn the game into a rout in the second half. If Kansas can do a better job with ball security in this game, they have a real chance to stay within this gargantuan point spread. Given that Oklahoma gave up 59 points to Texas Tech last week (winning by seven), the Jayhawks should be able to hang within five touchdowns.

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like what Oklahoma does on offense, but I don’t think they can sustain the defensive concentration to keep Kansas that low on the scoreboard. I predict a final score of Oklahoma 59, Kansas 20.
