Holiday Bowl: USC vs Wisconsin NCAAF Betting Odds, Pick & Preview

Posted by Aaron . on December 28, 2015 in

The Big Ten has been easy pickings for USC in the recent past, as the Trojans have knocked off their last 15 Big Ten opponents straight up (11-4 ATS). In Wisconsin’s last four games against Pac-12 opponents, they have gone 0-4 straight up and 1-2-1 against the spread. The Holiday Bowl features the USC Trojans tangling with the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday at 10:30pm Eastern time. USC is a three-point favorite. Why should you bet on USC (-3)?

The Trojans got off to a slow start this season, going 3-3, although two of those setbacks came against Notre Dame and Stanford. USC then went on a four-game winning streak to leap to the top of the Pac-12 South. They did lose to Oregon but then routed UCLA in the regular season’s last game to go to the Pac-12 title game. The Trojans got within five in the fourth quarter but still fell, 41-22. USC remains 4-0 against the spread this year when you favor them by seven points or less.

Why should you take the Badgers (+3)?

The Badgers are just a few plays from being in the College Football Playoff this year. The Badgers did lose to Alabama in Week 1, but then they ran off three straight wins. They fumbled on the Iowa 1-yard line in the fourth quarter in a game that they would eventually lose 10-6. They won five straight but then lost a controversial decision to Northwestern, 13-7, in a game that saw three touchdowns taken off the board, either by replay or penalty. They finished the regular season by knocking off Minnesota. The are the #3 team in the nation on defense and the #1 team in scoring defense, permitting just 13 points per game.

Expert Score and Final Prediction

The Badger defense should still stand tall against the Trojans. I like them to carry the day against USC, winning 20-13.
