San Diego State enters the Hawaii Bowl this NCAAF betting Christmas Eve as one of the hottest squads in the nation, winning nine in a row (8-1 ATS). However, they will find a big test waiting for them in Cincinnati, who features a terrific offense that can put up points in bunches. Cincinnati is favored to win by 2.5 points.

Why should you pick San Diego State (+2.5)?

The Aztecs won the Mountain West Conference after getting off to a rough start, losing at Cal and at Penn State (as well as at home to South Alabama). However, they righted the ship after that, winning their last five regular season games by an average of 42-13 to carry the Mountain Division and then defeat Air Force in the MWC title game 27-24. This brought the Aztecs their first conference championship in almost three decades. They showed balance on offense, passing for 203 yards and rushing for 233 more in that title game. They are #15 in the nation in rushing (235 yards per game) and #5 in total defense and in rushing defense.

The Hawaii Bowl.

Why should you pick the Bearcats (-2.5)?

Cincinnati opened the year 3-3, although their losses came to some tough teams (BYU< Temple and Memphis). They did win four of six down the stretch, and one of those two losses was by just three on the road at Houston, who would win the AAC. They beat East Carolina 19-16 in the last week of the regular season. They have outgained and outrushed the opposition in five of their last eight games. They are #5 in the nation for total offense, gaining an average of 559 yards per game.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

San Diego State has the saltier defense of the two teams. The offenses are roughly even in terms of talent, so I would go with the Aztecs here. I’m picking them to win 31-27.
