Clemson at Florida State Week 9 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on October 27, 2016 in

The third-ranked Clemson Tigers head down to Tallahassee to take on #12 Florida State in a crucial ACC matchup on Saturday night. Clemson almost fell to N.C. State last week, needing overtime to secure a 24-17 win. Florida State also won in shaky fashion two weeks ago, holding off Wake Forest, 17-6 before moving into their bye week. Last year, Clemson knocked off the Seminoles 23-13 over in South Carolina. Take a look at all of our college football betting picks for the coming weekend.

Why should you bet on the Tigers?

Right now, Clemson has some questions to answer. If N.C. State had made a field goal from 33 yards out at the end of the fourth quarter, the Tigers’ playoff hopes would likely have ended up in a dumpster. Deshaun Watson played a solid game, going 39 for 52 for 372 yards and pair of scores, bu the also threw an interception. Clemson has played with fire several times this year, letting Auburn and Troy State stay close in games that should have been far less competitive. The Tigers average 36.6 points per game, and they need to find more ways into the end zone against the Seminoles. Given that Clemson only permits 15.3 points per game, they need a little more out of their offense in order to put Florida State away.

Why should you put your money on the Seminoles?

The Seminoles showed impressive defense in that win over Wake Forest. Freshman quarterback Deondre Francois threw for 319 yards and a score (with a pick), and Dalvin Cook carried the ball 25 times for 115 yards — giving him at least 100 yarsd in four consecutive games. Those 17 points fall well below the team’s average (34.9 points per game), but Wake Forest has an above-average defense. If you pick Florida State, you like their defense to put the brakes on Clemson’s attack while moving the ball well themselves.

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The only game Clemson has lost in the past two seasons has been to Alabama in last year’s national championship, and they have themselves largely to blame for that loss, with blunders in their secondary and on special teams. I don’t see the Seminoles having enough weapons to stop the Tigers. I predict a final score of Clemson 30, Florida State 23.
