Clemson at Boston College Week 6 Betting Pick & Prediction

Written by on October 5, 2016

The third-ranked Clemson Tigers head north to Boston for a Friday-night prime time affair with the Boston College Eagles. The Tigers fought off Louisville at home for a 42-36 win last week, and BC took down Buffalo with a 35-3 shellacking. When the two teams met in 2015, Clemson routed the Eagles by a 34-17 score down in South Carolina. Let’s check out all of the Week 6 college football betting lines.

Clemson at Boston College Week 6 Betting Pick & Prediction

When: Friday, October 7, 2016, 7:30pm ET Where: Alumni Stadium, Chestnut Hill, MA TV: ESPN Radio: Clemson / Boston College Live Stream: WatchESPN NCAA Football Odds: Clemson (-15), O/U 45

Why should you bet on the Tigers?

Quarterback Deshaun Watson got back to his dynamic 2015 form, throwing for 306 yards and five touchdowns against Louisville. Even though he also threw three interceptions, the Tigers were able to overcome the miscues with solid defense. Three Clemson receivers had more than 70 receiving yards, led by the 98 yards (and two touchdowns) that Deon Cain posted. Clemson averages 35.2 points per game so far this season. The defense played spectacular ball last night, as Clemson became the first team this season to slow down Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson. Even though he threw a touchdown pass and ran for two more, this fell below his normal performance — and the Tigers sacked him five times. Even with the 36 points that the Cardinals posted, Clemson is still just giving up an average of 16 points per game.

Why should you put your money on the Eagles?

Despite the heavy rains that fell during the Eagles’ matchup with Buffalo, BC quarterback Patrick Towles still threw for 234 yards, going 14 or 25 with a pair of touchdowns but no interceptions. Tailback Jon Hillman struggled last week to gain ground, picking up only 54 yards on 19 attempts. The Buffalo game was the first in which BC put up a lot of points, though, as they only average 23.4 points per contest. The Buffalo defense lacked the aggression and speed that Clemson will show — and so did their offense, as they only gained 67 total yards in the game. BC only gives up 17.2 points per game, ranking #16 in the nation. But can they slow down the Clemson juggernaut?

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Clemson is 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team playing over .500, and in their last four games after beating the spread, they are 4-0 ATS. BC is 0-4-1 ATS in their last five ACC matchups, and their anemic offense is likely to struggle mightily against the Clemson attack. The only hope is that the Tigers will let up some on a Friday night after their marquee win, but I don’t see that happening. I predict a 44-17 Clemson victory.
