Bowling Green signal-caller Matt Johnson went 26 for 35 with 365 yards and four scores without a pick as the Falcons rolled over Ohio U. last week, 62-24. While four touchdowns sound like a big day, they were actually not as many as he had thrown in the three previous games, in which he had thrown five scores each. He also has a six-touchdown game this year. He leads the NCAA with 33 touchdown passes through nine games this season. Even though he is a senior, this is his first season to play all the way through, as he missed most of the 2014 season with an injury.
Last week saw Western Michigan rout Ball State 54-7 on Thursday night. The Western Michigan Broncos controlled both sides of the game, rolling up 711 yards of offense and holding Ball State to just 152. Junior wide receiver Corey Davis pulled in seven passes for three scores and 163 yards. Quarterback Zach Terrell went 16 for 22 for 324 yards. The ground game was also strong, as tailback Jamauri Bogan ran 18 times, racking up 171 yards and a touchdown.
So far this year, Bowling Green is 1-5 against the spread when they are favored to win by 3.5 to 10 points. This week they are favored to win by 4.5. The Falcons are 4-0 on the “over” in their last four games against teams with records better than .500, and they are 5-2 on the “over” in their last seven MAC games. Western Michigan is 16-5 against the spread in their last 21 contests, and 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 home contests. In their last eight games against schools with records over .500, they are 6-2 against the spread.

Both Bowling Green and Western Michigan have shown the ability to score whenever they want to. However, Western Michigan just finished dominating a team defensively and is hosting this contest. The Broncos only give up 221.1 passing yards per game, but Bowling Green gives up 268.7. Even though Bowling Green is favored to win this one, I would strongly consider taking the Broncos as their current track record shows them to be a little better prepared, especially on the defensive end, than Bowling Green.
