Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming match so you can bet against their NCAAF odds.

Montgomery Bowl Betting Preview

Great Matchup

The Memphis Tigers and Florida Atlantic Owls accepted their invitations to play in the Montgomery Bowl. Memphis enters this one with a 7-3 record. Their three losses coming to teams with records over .500. Memphis sports one of the best passing offenses in the country. They average just over 310 passing yards per game, while scoring almost 29 points per game. The Tigers also have a strong rushing attack, averaging just over 140 yards on the ground per game.

While the Memphis passing attack is very strong, their passing defense isn’t. The Memphis defense allows their opponents to throw for 303 yards per game, while giving up just over 31 points per game. Their rushing defense is a strength, as they give up just over 145 yards per game on the ground. The Memphis defense tends to bend, but they haven’t broken too many times this season.

When Lane Kiffin came to Florida Atlantic, he revitalized their offense. Kiffin left prior to this season for Mississippi, and it looked like he took the offense with him. FAU struggled on the offensive side of the ball this season. They only averaged 20 points per game, and their passing attack was poor, as they only threw for 143 yards per game. Their offense was carried by their rushing attack, as they averaged nearly 185 yards on the ground per game.

Defensively, Florida Atlantic had a very good group. They allowed 326 yards per game, but limited their opponents to just 175 yards per game in the air. They gave up just over 150 yards per game on the ground. If it wasn’t for their defense, they wouldn’t be playing in a bowl game this season.

This will be a battle as Memphis is boasted by their passing game, while the strength of Florida Atlantic is their passing defense. Memphis is the favorite in this one, as the oddsmakers have tabbed them as a 10.5 point favorite, with the over/under coming in at 52.5. Neither team has been particularly good against the spread this season, as Memphis is 3-6, while FAU is 3-5. Many of the Memphis games have turned into high scoring affairs, while FAU’s offense struggled to muster up points in many of their games.

Battle Tested

One thing that could make a difference is the strength of schedules. Memphis played a very strong schedule, taking on the likes of SMU, Houston, Cincinnati, Central Florida, and Tulane. FAU’s strength of schedule doesn’t match that of Memphis. We touched upon FAU’s strong secondary play earlier, however they never faced a passing offense near as strong as that of the Memphis Tigers.
