Ball State vs Ohio Tuesday Night MAC-12 Betting Odds and Preview

Posted by Aaron . on November 17, 2015 in

This Tuesday the Ball State Cardinals head to Athens, Ohio, to take on the Bobcats of Ohio University. After a disastrous season and a series of disappointing results in the betting odds, Ball State (3-7) is now playing just for pride once their loss to Western Michigan meant that they would not be bowl eligible. Ball State had a bye last week, and now there are two more games for Ball State: Ohio U. and Bowling Green. Ohio U. ended a three-game slide with a big victory on 27-o over Kent State to enter the ranks of bowl eligibility.

Ball State isn’t in last in the MAC West yet, though, because there’s always Eastern Michigan lurking at the bottom of the division. Ball State did earn an important win over UMass, but their 47-point drubbing at the hands of Western Michigan represented a big setback for the program. Ball State gave up 711 yards on defense, which was a record for the Broncos. Riley Neal only gained 38 yards on the ground and 78 through a fairly listless offensive effort.

Ball State’s quarterback, Riley Neal, stands 6’5” and is your usual freshman in terms of up and down play. The stats look good, as he has completed 58.3 percent of his passes, racking up 1,875 yards while passing for 13 touchdowns. It also lists just three picks in his statistics – and 388 yards on the ground, including one touchdown. Ball State only averages 23.6 points game, and it would be nice to see the running game click for them for once.

Ohio U made a big comeback bid last weekend, and it will continue this week – they hope. On November 10, they held a Kent State team that is awful on offense. Ohio also has middle linebacker Quentin Poling was back after missing time due to injury. He had his third interception of the season. Quarterback Derrius Vick was back from an ankle injury to grab 180 yards, including 107 rushing yards.

Betting Trends

Ball State Cardinals

The pick here is Ohio U. They are 4-1 in their last five home games and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games that came after a win. Ball State is 1-4 in their last November contests. They are 1-5 against the spread in the last six games in which they have permitted more than 200 yards the week before. Given Ohio’s penchant for dominating the weak teams in the MAC, this will square nicely with that. Take Ohio to win, and to win big.
