Auburn at Georgia College Football Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on November 9, 2016 in

Auburn and Georgia will meet for the 120th time this Saturday, the oldest rivalry in the Deep South. The two schools sit less than three hours apart by car, and the series has a razor-thin margin, with Georgia leading 56-55 (with 8 ties). The Bulldogs have won the last two, including a 20-13 decision at Auburn a year ago. Last week, both teams barely beat teams that live in the SEC cellar, as Georgia edged Kentucky, 27-24, and Auburn held off Vanderbilt, 23-16. Check out all of our college football odds & betting predictions for this weekend.

Why should you bet on the Tigers?

Auburn opened the season 1-2, but those two losses came to Clemson and Texas A&M. Since that point, Auburn has won six straight. While their win over Vanderbilt did not impress, they did tattoo then-#17 Arkansas 56-3. While Auburn did look sluggish against the Commodores, they also had starting quarterback Sean White on the bench. White had missed the entire week of practice due to a shoulder injury, so he did not start the game, but he came off the bench to lead the team on the drive to put them ahead in the third quarter, in relief of John Franklin III, who had gone 2 for 4 for just 9 yards. Tailback Kamryn Pettway came up huge for the Tigers, picking up 173 yards on 25 carries. If you bet on Auburn, you like the offense to put together a more consistent effort while that defense stays solid.

Why should you put your money on the Bulldogs?

Georgia’s season has taken on a mirror image of that of Auburn. The Bulldogs roared out to a 3-0 start but then took a 45-14 beating from Ole Miss, the first of four losses in five games. The only game they won was against South Carolina, amid losses to Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Florida. They looked like they were about to lose to Kentucky, but they put together a fourth-quarter rally to take the win. Given that the Bulldogs just gained 21 yards on 19 carries against Florida, they have a fight on their hands to move the ball against a serious Auburn defense.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Auburn to continue the strong defense they have played, and I like their offense to get back on track with Sean White getting a full week of practice. I predict a final score of Auburn 24, Georgia 13.
