Arkansas at Auburn Week 8 Betting Pick & Prediction

Posted by Peter Boysen on October 21, 2016 in

The biggest SEC West showdown on Saturday will take place up the road in Tuscaloosa, as #6 Texas A&M visits #1 Alabama, but in Auburn we also have a thrilling tilt in the division, as the Arkansas Razorbacks come to town. The Hogs knocked off Ole Miss last week, 34-30, and they face an Auburn team riding a three-game winning streak that featured a 38-14 whipping of Mississippi State two weeks ago. When these two teams tangled in 2015, Arkansas came away with a crazy overtime win, 54-46. Check out all of our college football betting picks for the weekend.

Arkansas at Auburn Week 8 Betting Pick, Prediction & TV Info

When: Saturday, October 22, 2016, 6:00pm ET
Where: Jordan-Hare Stadium, Auburn, AL
TV: ESPN
Radio: Arkansas / Auburn
Live Stream: WatchESPN
NCAA Football Odds: Auburn (-7.5), O/U 55.5

Why should you put your money on the Razorbacks?

Arkansas has an offense that puts the fear of God in many of their opponents, as quarterback Austin Allen has used his strong arm to throw for 18 touchdowns against just six interceptions. Tailback Rawleigh Williams has rumbled for 785 yards on the ground, giving the Hogs some offensive balance. The defense held an Ole Miss offense that put up 527 yards and 43 points on top-ranked Alabama to 403 yards and 30 points. Their defense tends to give up a lot of yards, but then they strengthen in the red zone — and they have an uncanny way of coming back in games.

Why should you bet on the Tigers?

Don’t look now, but an Auburn team that many picked to fester with Mississippi State in the basement of the SEC West has won three straight, including conference wins over LSU and Mississippi State. The Auburn defense has returned to its historically strong identity, permitting just 16 points per game, #11 in the nation. Mississippi State features a strong ground game but only gained 289 yards in their loss. The offense scores 32.3 points per game, with tailback Kerryon Johnson leading the way on the ground (Note: Johnson remains questionable for the game against Arkansas). Sean White has had a decent year at quarterback, completing 69.7% of his passes and throwing six touchdown passes, but this offense focuses on the ground game first. They could grind out drive after drive and whip the Razorbacks with the possession game.

My Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Arkansas has gone on a tear ever since the middle of 2015. I like them to head down to Auburn and deliver another surprise upset. I predict a final score of Arkansas 31, Auburn 27.
