Why should you bet on the Shockers?

After watching the Shockers’ first two games in this tournament, it’s fairly clear that we’re seeing a team on a mission. Fred VanVleet appears to have Wichita State on his back, as he led the team with 16 points. Fellow senior Ron Baker was right there with him, dropping 13 more on the Wildcats. Arizona is not nearly as good as Miami will be on the glass, so Wichita State will have to block out on the defensive end. Miami loves the transition game, but Wichita State has the #1 defense in the NCAA in terms of points permitted.

Why should you put your money on Miami?

Miami is a physical team that will test Wichita State on both ends of the floor. Like the Shockers, they also feel a little disrespected for the lack of attention they have been getting in comparison to some of the other ACC teams (Duke, Virginia and so on) that they feel they can beat. If Miami can get turnovers and start scoring in transition, and if they can work the ball inside and dominate the paint, this will be an easy win for them.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Wichita State to put the clamps on Miami and progress to the Sweet 16. VanVleet and Baker have the tournament experience to maintain their poise on the biggest stage. I’m picking the Shockers to win, 72-70.
