The college basketball betting action resumes this Monday with a handful of games, but on Tuesday night the Mountaineers of West Virginia head south to take on the Texas Longhorns in one of the hottest matches in the college hoops calendar for this week. The game tips off at 7:00pm Eastern time. The tenth-ranked Mountaineers are 20-5 and sit in second place in the Big 12 while the 24th-ranked Longhorns are 16-9, sitting in sixth in the Big 12. Why You Should Bet on West Virginia

West Virginia was already tough, but now that they have star forward Jonathan Holton back from a four-game suspension for violating team rules, they will be even harder to beat. The senior led the team with 14 points and seven rebounds in the team’s walloping of TCU, one of four Mountaineers in double figures. While Holton was out, West Virginia went 2-2, leaving them in a virtual tie with Kansas atop the conference. With him back in the lineup, West Virginia was at their best in their high-pressure defense, taking away the ball 26 times (and converting those turnovers into 26 points). Given that Texas won the first matchup between these two teams in West Virginia’s home gym, you can bet the Mountaineers will be ready for revenge.

Why You Should Bet on Texas

If the Longhorns can win at West Virginia, one of the toughest gyms in the NCAA, why shouldn’t they win at home against the same team? The return of Holton will be a big factor, but coach Shaka Smart has figured out ways around Bob Huggins’ pressing defense so that his team will put up plenty of points in the rematch. Texas has won six of their last nine Big 12 games, losing only at Kansas, Oklahoma and Iowa State, keeping their home Big 12 record pristine. They do need to win out if they plan to contend for the regular season title in the Big 12, which was certainly a possibility before the Iowa State loss. They are quick on offense and work hard to gain the advantage on the boards, making them a threat to West Virginia.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The return of Jonathan Holton and the momentum that the Mountaineers have built up in the Big 12 this season will pay dividends against Texas. I’m picking West Virginia, 73-67.
