Why should you bet on the Trojans?

The fortunes of the Trojans rise and fall with those of Jordan McLaughlin. He had the ball and a chance to score the winning basket against Cal on Sunday, but Ivan Rabb threw down a huge block for Cal to seal the win. McLaughlin has the speed and size to get to the rim against just about any defender, and his 20 points on the night (joined by 20 from Chimezi Metu) gave the team a chance to win. It was his basket that gave USC a 73-72 lead with 17 seconds left. The key for USC is getting stops on the inside — if you like them to beat Utah, then you like them to do a better job on post defense than they did against Cal.

Why should you put your money on the Utes?

Utah does better against teams with a smaller presence than they do against foes with big frontcourts. That explains their loss to Arizona last Thursday — and their win on Saturday against Arizona State. Kyle Kuzma had more room inside to dominate against the Sun Devils, and he put up a career best 26 points and pulled down a dozen boards. Utah did not shoot well from outside in either game, but Kuzma went 11 for 17 inside against Arizona State and then drifted outside to go 3 for 4 from downtown. However, once Arizona State tried to come inside late, behind the play of Obinna Oleka, they did crawl back into the game, but Utah was able to seal the win. If you like Utah, then you think that Kuzma can keep up similar production against the Trojans.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like what USC has been able to do so far, but I also like Utah’s energy at home. Except for an early win at Texas A&M, USC has not faced any tough true road tests, and I like Utah to hold serve at home with a 74-70 win.
