Betting Pick on Tennessee vs Kentucky

Posted by Juan Carlos on February 17, 2016 in

The #14 Kentucky Wildcats welcome the Tennessee Volunteers to Rupp Arena on Thursday night. Kentucky is in first place in the SEC, while Tennessee (12-13) sits in tenth place. Despite that gap in the standings, Tennessee won the first meeting between the two programs in Knoxville. They have not followed that up with solid play, though, as they just lost at lowly Missouri, 75-64. Kentucky is coming off one of their biggest wins of the year, a blowout of South Carolina (89-62) over the weekend. Why Should You Bet on the Wildcats?

I have an Angry Revenge Theory that drives my betting in situations like this. When Kentucky blew a 21-point lead at Tennessee, they were coming off a disappointing loss at Kansas in which they had also blown a lead in the second half. Since then, the Wildcats sputtered a bit, but convincing wins over Florida and South Carolina have shown us that they are starting that traditional late-season peak that pushes them well into the NCAA tournament. If you add this to the fact that Kentucky now gets a home game against the last team to humiliate them, this is not going to be a pretty game for the Volunteers. I would pick Kentucky by 10 or 12, and I might take an even higher point spread if the injury report is clear.

Why Should You Bet on Tennessee?

If the Tennessee Volunteers did it once, they can do it again, right? Well, I wouldn’t put a straight up bet on that miracle. But what if the spread is 20 or more? I might. The Vols got hot from three-point land in their comeback before, and if they can start filling the basket up from deep against Kentucky this time, the same thing could happen again. I think Kentucky will be going for the knockout early on, but Tennessee could get back in within 20 as the anger fades in the second half.

Expert Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see Kentucky playing this whole game at full throttle, and the Volunteers suffering a big, big loss. I’m taking Kentucky in this game, 90-61.
