The Tennessee Volunteers (14-11, 6-6 SEC) visit the #15 Kentucky Wildcats (20-5, 10-2 SEC) on Valentine’s Day for a conference matchup. The Volunteers took a tough home loss against Georgia on Saturday, 76-75, while Kentucky knocked off Alabama on the road, 67-58, on Saturday, giving them two straight wins since they took an 88-66 drubbing at Florida last Saturday.Once you’ve finished reading our prediction for this game, look at all of our NCAA Basketball odds for this week’s games.

Why should you bet on the Volunteers?

Tennessee had Georgia dead to rights on Saturday — except for J.J. Frazier, who put up 29 points for the Bulldogs, 20 of them in the second half. This loss continued a troubling trend for Tennessee, which has blown leads of at least 13 points in the second half in each of their last three setbacks. Georgia was down 14 with 15 minutes to go and erased that deficit by the 8:21 mark. If you like Tennessee in this matchup with Kentucky, you think they can go on the road and get key defensive stops against one of the most talented offensive teams in the nation. While Kentucky has its issues, those issues are on the defensive side — they should have no trouble scoring on the Volunteers.

Why should you put your money on the Wildcats?

One frustration for Kentucky coach John Calipari has been a lack of defensive intensity from his young team. However, the Wildcats showed a lot of maturity on the defensive side of the ball against Alabama in their nine-point win on Saturday, holding the Crimson Tide to just 20 points in the first half. Isaiah Briscoe had 11 points, 11 boards and four assists in the win. Malik Monk chipped in 17, and Bam Adebayo scored 14. Of course, it didn’t help the Crimson Tide that they missed 17 of 26 free throws. If you like Kentucky, you think that their cold early shooting against Alabama won’t repeat itself and that the Kentucky defense will play like they did in the first half against the Tide.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I don’t see Tennessee pulling off the upset on Kentucky’s home floor, especially now that Kentucky has righted the ship after that Florida loss. I predict a final score of Kentucky 75, Tennessee 65.
