Why should you bet on the Orange?

Louisville is in trouble, having lost three of five. They did beat North Carolina during that stretch, but then they lost at Duke and again at Notre Dame. Meanwhile, Syracuse is making waves in the ACC, turning things dramatically around after dropping four straight early in conference play. Freshman Tyler Lydon was the latest to make a splash, dropping 20 points on Boston College. Michael Gbinije added 17, Malachi Richardson put in 15 and Trevor Cooney contributed a dozen. It’s true that BC has been dreadful, now having dropped 12 straight ACC games, but Syracuse still took care of business, and by the last 10 minutes, it was junk time for the Orange as they rolled to the easy win. Syracuse had to deal with coach Jim Boeheim’s nine-game suspension, which was going to be during ACC play but then was shifted earlier at the last minute by the NCAA. They have found their way on both ends of the floor.

Why should you take Louisville?

It’s true that the road losses at Duke and Notre Dame were upsets, but Duke appears to be finding their way after an awful start to conference play, having earned their way back into the AP Top 25. Notre Dame peaked late last year as well and shocked everyone in the ACC tournament. So while dropping three of five is far from ideal, the ACC is one of the toughest leagues in the NCAA, and Syracuse is still well below the Cardinals in the standings. Damion Lee is one of the grittiest scorers in the NCAA, and he still led Louisville with 13 points in the Notre Dame loss. He knocked down a three with 16 seconds remaining to get his team within three. He had an open look with five seconds left from behind the arc but missed the shot, and the Irish clinched the win with a pair of free throws after getting the rebound.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Syracuse to go down to Louisville and waltz out with the upset. Syracuse has won five straight in ACC play (and 9 of 10), and they are playing well enough to knock off Louisville on the road. I’m picking the Orange to win, 74-71.
