Sweet 16 Cinderellas You Should Bet This March Madness

Remember when Florida Gulf Coast University made it all the way to the Final Four? Or when Butler almost won the national championship? A lot of times, it is the Cinderella stories that stand out the most to us when we remember tournaments past. After all, N.C. State’s shocking win over the Houston Cougars team with Hakeem Olajuwon resonates in the popular culture a lot longer than another boring steamroll by Duke or Kansas to the national title. This year, we have a few Cinderella teams to consider. How many of them will make it to the Final Four? Let’s find out in this Sweet 16 online betting analysis.

Wisconsin Badgers

This school is a 7-seed, and there were many who thought they would miss their first NCAA tournament since 1996 until they went on a tear in the second half of Big Ten play. After knocking off the 2-seed Xavier Musketeers with two huge threes in the last minute by Bronson Koenig, they have a very winnable game against Notre Dame, and then they would face the winner of Iowa State and Virginia. I think the Badgers are quick enough to keep up with Iowa State but have a better defense. I also think that Xavier is actually a tougher opponent than Virginia, so it’s more than plausible that the Badgers could return to the Final Four.

The 10-seed Syracuse Orange have been a changed team since the return of Jim Boeheim to the bench. His nine-game suspension (which the NCAA moved around the schedule, apparently just for fun) left the team in chaos, and they looked headed to the bottom of the ACC standings. However, they have played much tougher on both ends of the floor since Boeheim returned. They face off against a Gonzaga team that has also been disrespected all season long. Both teams won by double digits in their first two rounds; both play a suffocating form of defense. The winner emerges to face the winner of Indiana and North Carolina in the Elite Eight, and if that team fails to take this Cinderella seriously, we could see Syracuse or Gonzaga in the Final Four.

Texas A&M / Miami

Can a three-seed really be considered a Cinderella? Texas A&M has a lot of talent this season, and they have played well so far. However, this is not a team that we normally associate with greatness in the basketball arena. Instead, Texas A&M is a newcomer in the field of basketball powers — and so is Miami. Both of these three-seeds need to keep winning to earn some real respect in the NCAA world. If they can get past OU and Villanova (respectively), they will be in the Final Four and will be due some regard.
