The St. John’s Red Storm head to Philadelphia to take on the #4 Villanova Wildcats on Saturday night. The Red Storm (11-13, 5-6 Big East) have won three of their last five, including an 86-72 thumping of Marquette at home on Wednesday. Villanova (21-2, 8-2 Big East) rebounded from a 74-72 loss to Marquette two weeks ago by edging then-#12 Virginia at home and beating Providence on the road, 66-57, on Wednesday. After you’ve checked out this article, look at all of our other NCAA basketball odds for the week’s action.

Why should you bet on the Red Storm?

This head-to- head point of comparison of recent results against Marquette plays in the Red Storm’s favor, as Marquette took down Villanova by two but fell to St. John’s by 14. Basir Ahmed led the way for St. John’s, posting 23 points. Shamorie Ponds scored 18 points, Marcus LoVett added 17, and Kassoum Yakwe chipped in 14 more. They went on a key 13-0 run in the second half that gave them the lead they would need to go the rest of the way. When St. John’s has solid outside shooting and pays attention on the defensive glass, they get much better results, but they have only done that inconsistently this season.

Why should you put your money on the Wildcats?

Villanova’s loss to Marquette was a combination of some defensive lapses late and some cold shooting. It can be a challenge to stay consistent as an elite contender night after night, particularly in a tough conference like the Big East, but Villanova found a way to hold off a scrappy Providence team on the road. Jalen Brunson had a big steal and seven points — all in the last 1:38 of regulation — to help seal the season sweep. Josh Hart put up 17 points and 8 rebounds, although a late 3 by Providence made it 59-57, making the last couple of minutes interesting. They should have what it takes to take down a Red Storm team that is about the same as Providence, talentwise, at home on Saturday.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Villanova to shake off some recent woes and show some dominance on both ends of the floor against St. John’s. I predict a final score of Villanova 79, St. John’s 64.
