Why should you bet on the Red Raiders?

Iowa State has been one of the top teams in the Big 12 this season, and the Red Raiders had the moxie to take them to overtime and seal the victory. Keenan Evans had a big three in overtime, and then Zach Smith coolly drilled two free throws with 18 seconds left in the extra frame to salt away the win. Texas Tech has a history of beating Iowa State at home; when they pulled off the upset last year, Iowa State was #9. Devaugntah Williams had 19 points, and Aaron Ross poured in 20. Each time Iowa State started to build a lead, Texas Tech would come back and tie — and go ahead. The Baylor Bears are a strong team at home, but Texas Tech is playing well now and has what it takes to pull off the road upset.

Why should you take Baylor?

Even though the Bears have dropped two of three, that win at Kansas State was impressive, particularly since the Wildcats were coming off an upset of #1 Oklahoma. Taurean Prince and Al Freeman were almost perfect on offense. Prince went 6 for 8 from the floor with 18 points, and Freeman went 6 for 7, putting in 21. The Bears went 29 for 30 from the free throw line. The Bears started with an 8-2 run in that game and never had to play from behind — even with Rico Gathers, the team’s leading scorer, out with an illness. With Gathers back, the Bears should have more than what they need to knock off Texas Tech at home.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Bears are a solid home team, and while Texas Tech was able to knock off Iowa State at home, doing the same thing at Baylor. I’m picking the Bears to win, 80-69.
