Why should you pick the Hoosiers?

The Indiana Hoosiers looked like they would not be able to catch Iowa for the Big Ten title when they fell to Michigan State, 88-69, on Sunday. However, Iowa fell to Penn State on Wednesday night in a shocker, and Indiana made the most of their opportunity, delivering a whipping to Nebraska at home to take a share of the conference lead. Troy Williams, who went 0 for 5 against Michigan State and failed to score a point, came out more aggressively against Nebraska and went 8 for 9, pouring in 18 points and keying the Hoosiers’ attack. Robert Johnson added 13 points, Juwan Morgan added a season-high dozen, and “Yogi” Ferrell added 11 more. The game was close initially, but then Indiana went on a 17-4 run to finish the first half with a 41-34 lead. They came out of halftime on a 13-2 run to go up by 18 with 15:56 left. Nebraska got within 8 with nine minutes to go, but then the Hoosiers put on a 9-0 run to seal the win. The Hoosiers can use this momentum to knock off Purdue at home too.

Why should you bet on Purdue?

Purdue was able to hold off Northwestern by 10 points on a night when their outside shooters might have struggled to throw the basketball into the ocean, let alone make a basket. That meant that the team had to settle down and focus on their interior game. A.J. Hammons put in 18 points and grabbed 12 boards, and Johnny Hill hit a season-high 15 points. Even though the team only shot 38.3 percent, Hammons was able to lock down Northwestern the first half, and Hill dominated the second half. The poor Boilermaker shooting from the outside was all that allowed Northwestern to hang around. Given that Purdue can win under such cold conditions, if they can hit some shots against Indiana, they should be able to win on the road.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Indiana is rolling right now, and given that this game is in Bloomington, I like them to win over Purdue. I’m predicting a 74-69 win.
