The #25 Miami Hurricanes (20-9, 10-7 ACC) close out their regular season with a trip up to the Florida Panhandle to take on the #15 Florida State Seminoles (23-7, 11-6 ACC). Miami followed up upset wins at Virginia and at home against Duke with a loss at Virginia Tech on Monday night. Florida State lost at #17 Duke on Tuesday night. Why should you bet on the Hurricanes?

Miami picked up a pair of impressive wins to move into the AP Top 25, but unless they can beat Florida State on Saturday, they’re likely to fall right back out of the rankings. Against Virginia Tech, they watched Ty Outlaw go off for 24 points, a career best, and they watched the Hokies go on a 12-4 run late in the second half that turned a two-point Miami lead into a six-point Virginia Tech lead, an advantage they would not surrender. Anthony Lawrence led the Hurricanes with 18 points, but Miami’s failure to defend against the three-ball (Virginia Tech had 10) doomed them in this game. They’ll have to do a better job of limiting Florida State’s open looks to have a chance at a win up there.

Why should you put your money on the Seminoles?

The tremendous size that Florida State brings to the floor did not help them against Duke, as freshman guard Frank Jackson dropped three-balls and floaters over the defense to put up 22points, a season high, and Amile Jefferson scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Dwayne Bacon scored 19 points for the Seminoles, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes chipped in 15. But it was Jackson, who had 13 points just in the first 4:30 of the second half, who put the dagger in the Seminoles’ hopes. Florida State’s strong inside game will have to reassert itself against Miami for Florida State to close out their season with a win.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Florida State will have their hands full against a Miami team that has picked up some impressive wins late in conference play. However, I like Florida State’s advantage inside to make the difference, and I predict a final score of Seminoles 66, Hurricanes 62.
