Why should you bet on the Jayhawks?

The Jayhawks have won 14 games in a row, including their sweep through the Big 12 tournament. Their combination of a stifling defense and an offense that can push the tempo when necessary but can also pick opponents apart in the halfcourt makes them an incredibly difficult first round opponent for Austin Peay. The Jayhawks will need to put the gas pedal down from the beginning to cover this spread, but they have the manpower to do so.

Why should you put your money on Austin Peay?

To me, the key here is the 26-point spread on this game. Austin Peay entered the Ohio Valley tournament as the #8 seed and proceeded to knock off the 5-, 4-, 1- and 2- seeds along the way — and this was in a tournament that gave the 3- and 4-seeds one bye and the 1- and 2-seeds a double bye to protect them. If you’re looking for teams that have been playing well lately, Austin Peay is an example. There’s no way they would beat Kansas, but behind the scoring of center Chris Horton inside (18.9 points and 12.0 boards per game) and Josh Robinson (16.7 points) from the outside, Austin Peay could keep this closer than the gargantuan spread.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like the Jayhawks to win this game easily, but I think that as things get out of hand after halftime, they will open up the bench and start resting their key players for the round of 32. I like Kansas to win, but I think Austin Peay will cover. I’m predicting an 82-62 final score.
