Why should you bet on the Wildcats?

There is no backcourt in the nation better than Jamal Murray, the terrific freshman (22.4 points per game in SEC play) and Tyler Ulis (18.3 ppg, 8.4 apg), the SEC Player of the Year. Ulis poured in 30 points in the SEC final as the Wildcats beat Texas A&M in overtime. As long as they can keep their up-tempo offense on the run, Stony Brook will not have a chance. The Wildcats have depth and length in their frontcourt, in Alex Poythress, Skal Labissiere, Marcus Lee and Derek Willis, so if they play with heart and effort, they can keep Stony Brook from controlling the glass. But will they?

Why should you put your money on Stony Brook?

This is Stony Brook’s first appearance ever in the NCAA men’s tournament. However, they have a number of players who will contribute savvy to their effort. Jameel Warney is the three-time Player of the Year in America East and averaged almost 20 points and 11 boards this year. In the tournament, he scored 27 points and pulled down 23 boards against UMBC. Against the Vermont Catamounts, he went off for 43 points, shooting 18 for 22, in the America East final. Their toughest nonconference opponent was Vanderbilt, where they lost 79-72 in overtime. Remember that Vanderbilt is the last team to hand Kentucky a loss. Given that Kentucky allows their opponents offensive boards left and right, Stony Brook should be able to do quite well and give Kentucky a heck of a game.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think that Kentucky will come out of this game with a win, but they won’t cover that big spread. I’m picking the Wildcats to win, 78-70.
