The third-ranked Kansas Jayhawks head to the Texas panhandle to take on the Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Kansas (21-3, 9-2 Big 12) rebounded from a 92-89 loss against Iowa State with a 74-71 win at Kansas State on Monday night. Texas Tech (16-8, 4-7 Big 12) lost by 17 the first time key played Kansas, up in Lawrence, and they have dropped four of their last six, including a 62-61 loss to TCU on Tuesday night. Check out all of our college basketball spreads.

Why should you bet on the Jayhawks?

Kansas has proven largely immune to some of the attention lapses that have brought grief to such teams as Baylor and West Virginia in Big 12 play — that home loss to Iowa State notwithstanding — and the Jayhawks have both the size inside and the speed outside to overcome whatever bust of energy the Red Raiders might bring at them. Even on a night when Kansas State was playing at 100%, hustle plays by Frank Mason III and Josh Jackson made the difference in a tough road battle. It is the little things that keep Kansas beating teams like Kentucky (in their Big 12 SEC matchup). But with West Virginia coming soon and a trip to Baylor still on the schedule, will Kansas overlook the Red Raiders? Given that they already laid an egg against Iowa State, I would say no.

Why should you put your money on the Red Raiders?

Keenan Evans put up 20 points for Texas Tech in a mighty effort against TCU, but a late foul call sent the Horned Frogs to the line, where they sealed the win. If Evans had gotten that 21st point with another made free throw with 13 seconds left, though, the Red Raiders might have gotten the win. Zach Smith put up 11 points and grabbed 10 boards as well. Texas Tech is 0-6 on the road in Big 12 play — but they are 4-1 at home. Their arena is loud, and there is a lot of intensity that opponents face. However, given that Kansas went to Kentucky and won earlier this season, it’s hard to argue that Texas Tech will win this outright. If you get a spread of at least 10 points, though, you might consider Tech to cover.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Red Raiders bring a lot of passion on their home floor, but I like Kansas to come in locked in for this game. I predict a final score of Kansas 74, Texas Tech 66.
