Gonzaga vs Xavier Elite 8 NCAAB Betting Lines, Pick & TV Info

Top-seeded Gonzaga has made it back to the Elite Eight for the second time in the last three seasons. They routed South Dakota State in the opening round and then put down a plucky Northwestern team in the second round by six. Against West Virginia in the Sweet 16, the Mountaineers had three open looks at a three-ball to tie but missed all of them, and the Bulldogs moved on. They face the eleventh-seeded Xavier Musketeers, who has left a series of favorites in their wake — Maryland in the opening round, then a 25-point pounding of Florida State, and finally a two-point upset of second-seeded Arizona on Thursday night. Here’s a closer look at the matchup and it’s college basketball lines.

Why should you bet on the Bulldogs?

Gonzaga did a solid job smothering the West Virginia sharpshooters, limiting them to 5 of 23 shooting from downtown. Gonzaga only made four shots from three-point land, but they only tried 10. Jordan Matthews hit one of them with a big hand in his face to give Gonzaga their last lead in the waning moments. Przemek Karnowski needs to establish himself inside with his post game — and the Bulldogs need to box out. They permitted 20 offensive boards to West Virginia, and Xavier loves to turn offensive rebounds into second chance points. If you like Gonzaga, you think they can box out and keep Xavier from nailing shots from downtown or penetrating to the rim.

Why should you put your money on the Musketeers?

Arizona outrebounded Xavier by eight, but Gonzaga doesn’t have the same size or commitment to the glass that Arizona does. Trevon Bluiett went 9 for 17 from the floor against Arizona (3 for 8 from downtown) and he picked up 25 points on the night. J.P. Macura scored 14 points and gathered in a team-high seven boards. Malcolm Bernard went three for free from behind the arc, and if he is that dangerous against Gonzaga, Xavier could be headed to the Final Four. If you like Xavier, then you think that their upset magic can keep on going.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

Last year, we saw 10-seed Syracuse go all the way to the Final Four. Can Xavier make it as an 11-seed? A lot of people thought Arizona would knock out Gonzaga, and at what point does Xavier stop being an afterthought and become the expected winner? I don’t see Gonzaga losing this, but I don’t see them covering either. Give me a final score of Gonzaga 74, Xavier 72.
