Why should you pick the Blue Devils?

Remember when Duke had lost three in a row in ACC play and fell out of the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2007? That’s all right; their fans don’t remember those times either. Why? Duke has now won five games in a row, the last two against teams in the AP Top 10 (Virginia and North Carolina). This was the first time that Duke had won consecutive regular-season contests against teams in the top 10 when they were not in the top 10. They also did the feat during the 1990 NCAA tournament and the 1980 ACC tournament. Their win over North Carolina came after Matt Jones went down in the first half with an injury, leaving the Blue Devils basically with a five-man rotation for the rest of the game. North Carolina was bigger and deeper, but they could not salt away the win; the fact that Duke is playing so well as a team right now makes them a scary foe on any schedule.

Why should you bet on Louisville?

Louisville had dropped two games in a row, and it looked like that would become three at the start of their game against Syracuse. They started with 3 of 14 shooting, but they ended up hitting 48 percent for the game, while holding Syracuse to 38 percent. The key was the dominance that Louisville showed inside, outrebounding the Orange 41-30 and had 50 points in the paint to the opponents’ 20. The Orange play in a trademark 2-3 zone, which frustrated the Cardinals’ offense at first but then allowed the Cardinals to control the offensive glass and score at will on the inside. Louisville’s newly discovered confidence should serve them well against Duke.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Duke to keep their hot streak going. The Cardinals did recover some of their confidence at home, but Duke is too hot right now. I’m picking the Blue Devils to win, 72-70.
