Duke at Syracuse Betting Pick, Spread & TV Info

Posted by Peter Boysen on February 21, 2017 in

The tenth-ranked Duke Blue Devils (22-5, 10-4 ACC) will be in upstate New York on Wednesday night to take on the Syracuse Orange (16-12, 8-7 ACC). The Orange are having an unusually poor year in the ACC regular season, but the Carrier Dome is still a tough place for road opponents to pull out victories. Duke has won seven in a row, including a 99-94 win over Wake Forest on Saturday. Syracuse has hit tough times as of late, following up a five-game winning streak with a three-game losing streak, most recently falling at Georgia Tech on Sunday, 71-65. The conference races are tightening up in college basketball, so don’t miss any of our online NCAAB spreads.

Why should you bet on the Blue Devils?

Duke has finally come together as a team — at least on the offensive side of the ball. Luke Kennard put up 23, Jayson Tatum chipped in 19 and Amile Jefferson scored 16 in their barnburner with Wake Forest on Saturday. The Blue Devils shot 59 percent from the floor and hit 13 shots from downtown. Duke remains tied with Florida State and Louisville for second place in the ACC, just a game back of North Carolina. Syracuse plays that patented 2-3 defense, but teams have been able to play the inside-out game to get open looks from behind the arc, which Duke has been able to exploit to perfection.

Why should you put your money on the Orange?

Syracuse went into halftime up three against Georgia Tech, but then they opened the second half shooting just 2 for 17, while the Yellow Jackets went 9 for 14 after the intermission. The Orange looked slow with their ball movement, and so despite 18 points from Taurean Thompson and 17 from Andrew White, the Orange failed to pick up a win. They did roar back from a 13-point deficit to trail by just two with 56 seconds left, but a failure to get key stops earlier in the second half allowed Georgia Tech to score 42 points after the intermission. That kind of meltdown on both ends has doomed Syracuse all season and will doom them against Duke unless they come out differently at home.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I don’t see the Orange getting in the way of Duke’s eighth win in a row, given how well Duke has been playing in road ACC games. I predict a final score of Duke 79, Syracuse 76.
