The DePaul Blue Demons head east to take on the Providence Friars in Big East basketball action on Saturday afternoon. Providence (19-9) is in fifth place in the Big East and is limping in after a 70-52 loss at Seton Hall on Thursday. DePaul (9-18) is in ninth place in the Big East but has a little more momentum, having knocked off St. John’s at home, 83-75, on Thursday. Get the updated NCAAB betting odds for this game.

Why should you bet on the Friars?

Let’s be frank — DePaul beating St. John’s is not that notable a win, as those are the two teams toiling at the bottom of the Big East standings. Seton Hall was a tough opponent that is zeroing in on an NCAA tournament berth, while Providence is scuffling along a bit. They had three starters who were not feeling their best (Chris Dunn, Junior Lomomba and Rodney Bullock), and while they all played, they did not play well against Seton Hall. Also, center Ben Bentil was ejected late in the second half for a flagrant 2 foul. Those ill players should feel better on Saturday, and Bentil (who does not have a history of getting into that sort of foul trouble) should finish the game, giving the Friars full ranks.

Why should you put your money on DePaul?

Sometimes when teams lose and feel that their postseason hopes are draining away, they will cough up bad losses, and this is a situation where DePaul could come in and find a Providence team without a whole lot in the way of energy. They have two players who can score and pound it inside in Myke Henry and Tommy Hamilton IV, so if Providence doesn’t come out ready to play, they could find themselves in a hole in a hurry.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I am picking Providence to play well at home and send the Blue Demons packing in relatively easy fashion. My score prediction is Providence 75, DePaul 62.
