Creighton at Georgetown Betting Pick, Prediction & TV Info

The Georgetown Hoyas host the #16 Creighton Bluejays on Wednesday night in some Big East conference basketball action. The Hoyas (10-10, 1-6 Big East) have dropped two in a row and six of eight, including an 86-75 loss at Xavier on Sunday. Creighton (18-2, 6-2 Big East) had only lost to then-#1 Villanova until their 102-94 home loss to Marquette on Saturday. Why should you bet on the Bluejays?

This game is an example of my Angry Contender Theory. You have a team (Creighton) that was ranked in the top 10 and then took a bad loss from an opponent well below them in the standings. It’s true that this was Creighton’s first game without Maurice Watson Jr., one of their marquee players, who saw his season end with an ACL tear in the team’s win over Xavier last Monday. Marquette took advantage of the situation, as Katin Reinhardt posted 17 of his 21 points before halftime, putting up 10 in a row during a 12-0 run. Luke Fischer put up 18 points and blocked six shots. Creighton got their intensity going after halftime, but they could not overcome a 50-40 halftime deficit as they had no answers for Marquette on the defensive end. Given how poorly Georgetown has been playing, I see this as one of those games when the Angry Contender will take out their frustrations on their next lowly opponent — which would be the Hoyas.

Why should you put your money on the Hoyas?

Georgetown had Xavier right where they wanted, lingering within a point or two for the entire first half, as the Musketeers had to fight through a dip in confidence that had accompanied a three-game losing streak in Big East play. However, Xavier point guard Edmond Sumner overcame a shoulder injury to push the team to a 52-point second half and a runaway victory over the Hoyas — despite the fact that Sumner basically had to play without the use of his left hand. Rodney Pryor led the Hoyas with 23 points, but Georgetown lost the rebound battle, 35- 21, and failed to be aggressive on offense, settling for shots instead of heading to the rim. Unless they can come out with a lot more energy against Creighton, taking the Hoyas here is a hard case to make.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Creighton to come back and deliver a whipping as they try to work through some frustration from Sunday’s loss to Marquette. I predict a final score of Creighton 84, Georgetown 71.
