Coronavirus (COVID-19) NCAAB Update – Mar. 18th Edition

Posted by Derrick Harper on March 19, 2021 in

Just a little over a year ago, the sports world came to a screeching halt. When it was announced that Rudy Gobert tested positive for COVID-19, everything stopped. This included the college basketball conference tournament. A game in the Big East Tournament was even stopped at halftime.

Fast forward a year and now we’re on the eve of the start of the NCAA Tournament. Even though the tournament is still playing under some unique circumstances, college basketball fans are still going to get the action that they have craved for over a year. With that mind, let’s have a look at our latest NCAAB update so you can keep betting against their College Basketball odds.

COVID-19 NCAA Basketball Update – March 18th Edition

The First Four was played on Thursday night with two games involving 16 seeds, and two games pitting 11 seeds against each other. The winners of these games advance to take on Baylor, Gonzaga, BYU, and USC. These games will be played on Saturday.

As for Friday’s action, the games will tip off at just after noon eastern time, as the #10 seed, the Virginia Tech Hokies will take on the #7 seed, the Florida Gators. After that game, we’ll see 15 other games throughout the day and evening.

This year’s NCAA Tournament will be played in a “bubble”. Indianapolis will be hosting this year’s festivities, as four arenas throughout the city will host games throughout the entirety of the tournament. This is a very unique way to host the NCAA Tournament, but then again, we’ve never played this tournament during a pandemic.

The favorites to win this year’s tournament are Gonzaga, Illinois, and Baylor. Gonzaga has been the consensus #1 throughout the season. Mark Few has three elite players in Corey Kispert, Drew Timme, and freshman Jaylen Suggs. The Zags have one of the best offenses in the country, and they can put up points in bunches.

Baylor is one of the most versatile and athletic teams in the country. They don’t rely on one player to carry them offensively. They can do numerous things defensively, as they rely on their athleticism to disrupt the other team’s offense. Scott Drew has done a tremendous job with this group, as he has coached to their strengths.

The University of Illinois could be the hottest team in the country heading into the NCAA Tournament. Brad Underwood’s Illini are coming off of a Big 10 Tournament championship. Illinois ended the regular season by demolishing Michigan, and then they went into the conference tournament and defeated three teams that will be playing this weekend. Ayo Dosunmu is one of the top players in the country, and his play has made the country aware of who he is.

The next four days will be a college basketball fan’s dream! With the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament being decided by next Monday, we’ll then know who will be in the Sweet 16. After not having the tournament last year, America will be thrilled to see how their brackets do and to sit around and watch game after game while they should be working. The NCAA Tournament is back, and we can’t wait to see what happens!
