March Madness Odds Report: Connecticut Huskies vs Kansas Jayhawks

When: Saturday, March 19, 2016, 7:45 PM ET
Where: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, IA
Radio: Jayhawks IMG Sports Network
Live Stream: March Madness Live
NCAAB Odds: Kansas (-8)

Why should you bet on the Jayhawks?

Kansas looked terrific in the opener, but it is important to remember that Austin Peay was a 16-seed who had been the eight-seed in their conference tournament before going on a big run. Kansas knocked down 55.7 percent of their shots (39 for 70) and held the Governors to only 41 percent. Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and Perry Ellis scored 23 and 21 points, respectively. Ellis sliced his way through the Austin Peay defense again and again. The Huskies will have a better defense, but Kansas is balanced, having four players averaging in double figures. So while Connecticut only allows 63.2 points per game (#15 in the NCAA), Kansas has a high-powered attack that is as good as (if not better than) anything they saw in AAC play.

Why should you put your money on Connecticut?

Connecticut has battled back from deficits all season long, and their win over Colorado was no different. The Buffaloes were up by 11 in the first half, but the Huskies chipped away at that deficit, and now head coach Kevin Ollie is 7-0 in NCAA tournament play. The Huskies hit 22 of 23 free throws, including six by Sterling Gibbs in the last minute. As a team, they lead the nation in free throw percentage (79.3). Connecticut is strong on the boards, and they will need to exploit that advantage in this game. They will also need to clamp down on the Jayhawk offense, which is a tall order.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Kansas to win this game, but that’s a big spread. I like the Huskies to cover, so I’m predicting a final score of Kansas 80.
