Although they’ve had numerous obstacles this season, they’re currently sitting at 6-2, and are 2-0 in the American Athletic Conference. Let’s take a closer look at both teams and how they arrive to this matchup so you can bet against College Basketball odds.

Wichita State vs. Houston Betting Preview

Shockers with Hands Full

Wichita State, winners of five straight, could be headed into a buzzsaw on Wednesday night, as they travel to Houston to take on the #11 Houston Cougars. The Shockers haven’t had much luck with the Cougars as of late, as Houston has won the last six in this series. In those six games, Houston has won by an average of 14, including a 33-point blowout win last season. Houston suffered its first loss of the season on December 30th, as they fell 65-64 at Tulsa. Houston rebounded with a 74-60 win over SMU on Sunday.

Kelvin Sampson’s Houston Cougars squad plays a hard, aggressive style of basketball. They’re relentless on the defensive end, and they own the glass on both ends of the floor. Quentin Grimes is a load for Houston, averaging nearly 18 points per game. Marcus Sasses compliments Grimes well, as he’s averaging just over 15 per game. Houston is putting up 73 points per game, but they hang their hat on the defensive end of the floor, as they’re only giving up 56 points per game. They’re the 5th best defensive squad in the country, and are holding their opponents to just 37% shooting.

Wichita State has some momentum heading into this one, as they scored a huge non-conference victory over Ole Miss on Saturday. Tyson Etienne, the Shockers leading scorer at 17 per game, put up 29 against the Rebels. When the Shockers are shooting well from beyond the arc, they’re tough to beat. They’re undefeated this season when they hit eight or more three-pointers. The Shockers can also defend, as they’re holding their opponents to just under 67 points per game.

Wichita State is on a roll, and wants to continue on their impressive streak. They’ve won five in a row, including three straight on the road as an underdog. They’re currently sitting alone in first place in the AAC. As a 10.5 point underdog in this one, they’ll have their work cut out for them. Houston is tough to beat at home, as they’ve won five straight at the Fertitta Center. Wichita State is 325th in the country in defensive rebounding, while Houston is the fourth-best offensive rebounding team in the nation. If WSU can’t keep Houston off of the offensive glass, they could be in for a long night.

Fun Basketball

When it comes to betting against the spread, Houston has been pretty good at covering. They’re 5-2 ATS in their last seven, while they’re 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games. This should be a fun one to watch!
